If you want to. Step 1 move the furniture out of the space to be carpeted. If you are carpeting a single room you can put the furniture in another room but if you are doing an entire house or floor you may need a garage or storage space. Floors need to be resealed every two to three years.

If you are unable to get enough help from friends or neighbors or if you have health problems you may want to hire step 2 vacuum the carpet. No matter how dirty or clean the concrete floor looks start the process by sweeping the floor. Follow by wiping the area with a wet sponge or mop making sure to wring excess water before wiping the powder away. Clean the concrete with a solution of 1 2 cup trisodium phosphate to 2 gallons of warm water.

This solution uses chlorinated lime otherwise known as bleaching powder to clean a concrete floor. Scrub the white powder to loosen it from the concrete floor. If you have a vinyl floor you may be able to install your flooring directly on top of it. Apply the solution to mildew stains using a soft brush.

Start in the middle of the area and roll the sealant out to the edges. The concrete floor should be completely free of all adhesive residue dust and dirt before applying a cleaning solution. For concrete floors you might consider a concrete sealer to protect the surface from moisture and wear. The act of removing carpet will kick up a lot of dust.

Use a paint roller to apply it to clean primed concrete. To make your concrete floors resistant to future stains apply a concrete sealant. Mix 1 ounce laundry detergent 3 ounces trisodium phosphate 1 quart household bleach and 3 quarts of water for a solution to remove mildew. Remove any carpet or other flooring.

Treat a concrete floor with bleaching powder. Multiply length times width of the room. Prevent damp basement floors from ruining carpet and other finished flooring. Add about 10 to that number to account for any possible mistakes and warped boards.

Follow up with a light vacuum using the vacuum s floor attachment. You will want to put it somewhere out of the elements. Determine how much flooring and materials will be needed. If you have minor damage to your wood subfloor from pets or spills it s a good idea to brush on some primer sealer over these areas to seal in odors and protect your new carpet.
